Mets & Marlins @ Citi Field

August 2, 2011

The Mets had the game tied up in the 9th and managed to blow it big-time in the 10th. Final score was 7-3. The people who left in the seventh inning knew this was going to happen.

I have no idea what the store is selling, other than attitude.

Dutch Kills Bar

May 22, 2010

The nouveau cocktail place is going for a dark, Prohibition ambiance, which works as soon as your eyes adjust. Dutch Kills Bar is a stone’s throw from the  Citicorp building, and though I’m generally suspect of newly invented mixed drinks, they know what they’re doing here. The libations are outstanding. Also known as karela (in Hindi) and paria (in Filipino), the vegetable is used in traditional and natural medicine to treat diabetes.

A wacky pile of tires

Black rubber doughnuts:  I would have a hard time matching many of these tires with the vehicles they were used on.

Bonsai tree at Riis

Wind off the beach and parking lot + pine tree = the unexpected.

I spy something healthy in a diner

January 20, 2010

The bananas! The Cross Bay Diner, out in Queens, is a friendly place. The food there is a little fresher and healthier than at your average diner – you can get sweet potato fries with your greasy burger.

Day at the beach

January 18, 2010

The beach was a marvelous place to be on this Monday holiday. It wasn’t too cold or crowded, and the surf was rather rough and nice to look at.
