Springtime window shot

April 4, 2013

bonjour

Haven’t had any out-the-window pictures in a while. This week the city is crawling with tourists who are extending the Easter week vacation. Some are surprised by the cool weather and have to go right from the tour bus to the gift shop and buy sweatshirts that say New York or I Heart NY. They’ll usually get a NY Yankees baseball hat or two while they are at it.

Way downtown

shoppin bags

The tourist route includes the WTC construction, Century 21, and maybe a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The last depends on the lines and the weather, although I would recommend starting here so you don’t have to schlep bags all day.

Visitors take it in

They are happy; on their own little island upon the larger island, observing and strolling.

Sitting on a vowel

Unfortunately for the tourists, the Love sculpture also functions as seating for tired New Yorkers. The photographer can angle the shot to emphasize the letter E and her friend so the regular folk hardly show.

The friend with a camera

We all have that friend with a camera. Even me. He or she likes tourist pictures with a familiar face in them, but they never turn out so well. Even the buildings appear in an unflattering light.

Sitting tourists

Having fun yet? Since it’s going to be really hot today, I’d recommend water before a salad, maybe lighter clothing.

Dressing for a heatwave

Accessories are the answer. Match your sunglasses with your bag and ditch the adults. Obviously.

One plus two

June 18, 2012

My guess is mom’s leading a teen daughter and her friend. One of the girls can’t wipe the worry and dismay off her face. NYC is safe(r) now, but it’s not a good idea to wander around like you expect to witness a mob hit at any moment.

By the rink @ Rock Center (in warm weather)

May 31, 2012

The flags at Rockefeller Center are up for Memorial Day week. The skating rink is turned into a bar during the warmer months. It’s pleasant, but views are better from street level.

The clump

Some people like being part of a group that ambles around in tight formation. Others wear bright clothing and eat while they walk.
