Big sister could be a problem

April 16, 2012

Dad is aloof, too. What is a family vacation without simmering tension and a little drama?

62 degrees & very breezy

April 10, 2012

Hold on to your hats. The pollen and dust are swirling. If you are in an office with an open seating arrangement, it sounds something like this: cough, cough, sneeze, sneeze.

Red light @ 35th Street

April 3, 2012

Lunchtime photos are a matter of convenience, and usually I’m ten or fifteen blocks north of this area. 34th Street and environs are crowded with office workers, tourists, commuters, and shoppers. There must be cars coming, too, because no one’s darting across the street.

First days of spring

March 21, 2012

At last, the warm weather matches the season. It’s much more appropriate that it’s seventy degrees in spring than winter. Some in NY expect a few more snowflakes in the next couple weeks, though.

Exchange this for that

May 17, 2011

This picture is from last week… a day when the sun was out. The pedestrian has blocked the red awning in an imaginative way – maybe it doesn’t say what we assume it does. What might one exchange there? Baloney? Honey? Something phoney? An item from the Island of Coney?

Department of cliches

May 6, 2011

Here’s the equivalent of a cut-and-paste entry, a collection of what you expect to see in NYC:  the yellow cab speeding up to the curb, trash bags, NY character (about to get into cab), white-box apartment buildings, and a jaunty camera angle, of course.

Crossing Broadway

April 28, 2011

We have accepted spring and shed most of our cold-weather clothing. What to wear now, though? Cardigans, shorts, flip flops, sun dresses, sunglasses, and baseball caps are favorites, worn according to gender and tolerance to sun and cold.

Seventh Avenue stroll

April 27, 2011

They are walking downtown, Times Square is in view… another picture in tourist town! (as if I should speak) The guy’s outfit is completely appropriate for the tentative weather of spring: the sleeves and pants are midway between long and short. He’s ready when it’s warm during the day and cooler after dark.

Mother, daughter, dirty van

April 25, 2011

The mother and daughter are walking with somewhere in mind. We’re looking forward to real spring weather, when vans are clean and Ugg boots are put away and shorts and panty hose don’t appear anywhere near each other.

Foggy day makes me like yellow

April 23, 2011

The fog is not objectionable. It’s unusual in NYC, and it lurks about 20 stories up, inconveniencing travelers, mostly, and bored office workers whose view out the window is obscured.
