Renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is in Louis Vuitton’s window at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. She looks real, though her hair purposely doesn’t. (Madame Tussaud’s could learn a few things from this tableau.) Kusama’s currently having a retrospective at the Whitney, and it’s sponsored by a luggage maker with theĀ initials “LV.”

On Fifth Avenue the high-priced brands compete for the camera’s attention. The woman with the Coach accessories makes a last-moment attempt to insert herself in the photo, running neck-and-neck with that black (Cadillac?) SUV. The boy in Adidas becomes almost secondary.

The Louis Vuitton store is presently decorated with the Eiffel Tower. I think we’re supposed to feel like we’re on vacation. The dollar is stronger than it has been in a long while, so why leave the US?
