This is where the camera bugged out

June 21, 2013

hold still

Sometimes the camera and I have a disagreement about uploading pictures. I curse, run a little program, and my photos are mostly salvaged; the camera eats a few. What interests me are the ones that are nearly lost, like this one. On the left you’ll see the words “Eye Center.”

Lion King pop-up exhibit

December 16, 2012

popping up

There’s an exhibit about the Lion King show that is set up for a few weeks in a space across from Bryant Park at the corner of 42nd and 6th Avenue. Check out the costumes and the puppet-creatures from this blockbuster… for free!

2nd floor view, Joe Fresh

June 8, 2012

The second-floor view from this landmark building is nicer than the clothes for sale and more enduring. Open 10 AM to 9 PM most days, 5th Avenue and 43rd Street.

Sliver of a park

May 14, 2012

There’s a narrow park that creates a little breathing room between 42nd and 41st Streets. It’s pleasant, this space from a building entrance to a construction site, but there’s also the feeling that the machinery is about to start up and interrupt the calm.

Women crossing here

May 5, 2012

It’s just a coincidence that women have taken over the intersection at 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. Or is it? Women might go on more daytime errands and shopping trips than men.

Spring break on 42nd Street

April 7, 2012

42nd Street is extra-crowded lately because of spring break. NYC school kids are off this coming week, but other schools were off two weeks ago, and some have two weeks of vacation rather than one. If, by chance, you live in the five boroughs and want to go to Madame Tussaud’s (it could happen), fuggeddaboudit! The crowds will drive ya crazy.

Scooters for big kids

March 18, 2012

Scooters for big kids and adults are just like the ones for the little kids. The riders get glances from pedestrians, but fewer than if they were riding a skateboard.

Taking a picture means take MY picture

November 22, 2011

When I’m wandering around the city I like to take pictures of people taking pictures, especially when the subject is mundane. My guess is that this girl snapped a photo of the intersection of Sixth Avenue, with a little bit of Bryant Park at the top.

Legwarmers are back

November 21, 2011

These weren’t the first leg warmers I’ve seen lately, but they were the biggest. I naively thought, after they disappeared a few years ago, that we might never see leg warmers again.

Attentive on 42nd Street

November 19, 2011

Her look is focused: business, NOW. But that furry trim says feel free to just forget what I just said.
