Nutcrackers are waiting

The nutcrackers are waiting for us to fall asleep so they can occupy our dreams, cause some havoc, and remind us that this holiday business has a sinister side. Traditionally, Christmas was a season of drunken, bad behavior. The era of candy canes and a gentle and generous Santa is quite a new thing, historically speaking.

In recent years the sinister nutcrackers showed up after Thanksgiving in front of the UBS building on Park Avenue & 48th Street. It was a relief when they didn’t show up there this year. So it was quite a jolt to see in this photo they have simply migrated to 6th Avenue. Thank you for keeping us informed of their whereabouts!

I like those. I have Tchaikovsky’s music for that ballet that I play at Christmas.
