Snowflakes and scaffolding, Columbus Circle

December 6, 2012

@ the mall

You were waiting for this, weren’t you? This year’s picture of the snowflakes at the Time Warner Center has a mini Cape Canaveral scaffolding in the background. They are leaving up Tatzu Nishi’s “Discovering Columbus” set-up until January so that the Columbus sculpture can be conserved. (The exhibition closed last weekend.)

Mannequin escaped

September 25, 2011

I am reminded of the recently escaped pea hen from the Central Park Zoo. People watched, wondered where she might fly off to, but ultimately the bird returned to the safety and familiarity of her home at the zoo.

Team New York biker @ Columbus Circle

June 18, 2011

Got the shirt, got the hat, got the attitude. Columbus Circle is always crowded, though this picture makes it look otherwise. Bikes are everywhere, thanks to the bike rental businesses that are on every corner near Central Park.

Chillin’ Like a Villain

Yo, like Gellin’ Like a Felon? You are right if you think everyone older than you is out to embarrass you. Sorry but true, Villain!

Your fancy sandwich is ready

April 20, 2011

On the third floor of the Time Warner Center, the air gets thinner and food fancier, even at Bouchon Bakery, the casual food outlet of a famous restauranteur.

They don’t show their hands

Time Warner Center, circa 2050

February 12, 2011

Remember cable TV? And when the sun was out during the day? All I know is that the future had better have moving sidewalks and some robots, or I’m going to be disappointed.

Action @ the Columbus Circle station

January 12, 2011

Immediately, my eyes go to the miniature police barricade. Is she there voluntarily, or did the police park her in that spot and tell her not to move?

3D & many screens

December 12, 2010

The question might be, Things you don’t need? 3D TV is available, but I don’t know anyone who has bought one. Go to the Time Warner Center and try it out. It is pretty cool for thirty seconds, then you’re ready to move on to the next gadget.

Enjoy the stars while you’re shopping

November 26, 2010

The holiday stars at the Time Warner Center make the shopping a little easier. Last week there were no lines, and now there’s a full-on frenzy. Stay calm, enjoy the colors and music, but if you’re looking for the Boteros, they’ve been moved toward the north and south doors. In their usual place are schlocky sculptures based on Dali’s paintings that could make you cranky, if the crowds don’t.
