Sitting on a vowel

August 10, 2012

Unfortunately for the tourists, the Love sculpture also functions as seating for tired New Yorkers. The photographer can angle the shot to emphasize the letter E and her friend so the regular folk hardly show.

The backside of Love

December 22, 2011

Usually a fruit vendor is blocking this view of tourists posing between the letters V and E. Winter begins today, so the vendors are gone in anticipation of icy-cold weather. Instead, it’s 55 degrees. This month is surreal.

Another big red sculpture

November 9, 2011

A creation by Robert Indiana, who is famous for creating the “Love” sculpture (one of which is installed on Sixth Avenue a few blocks away) is up for auction at Christies. Their estimate is $1 to $1.5 million. Nice, but Art is no Love, I think we would agree.

Moms are happy

June 26, 2011

The scaffolding by the red LOVE sculpture has come down. Now the little ones can sit and look extra adorable in a NY setting.

Goofy love & scaffolding

January 21, 2011

Scaffolding is going up around the love sculpture at the corner of 55th and 6th Avenue. Visitors were older and more uninhibited than usual yesterday. Is a trend underway? Further observations will be made.

Coming from a place of LOVE

January 8, 2011

Because it gets a lot of visitors, I feel compelled to feature the well-known red sculpture every couple months. Tourists act like the piece is NYC’s epicenter of love, act giddy, and take pictures of each other posing in front of it.

Too bright at the love sculpture

November 30, 2010

The afternoon sun in the late fall is murder. On the avenues it shines in your eyes, blinds you, and steers you into strangers, yet on the side streets, it’s too dark to take a half-decent picture. For fun, sit between the V and the E of the LOVE sculpture, and see how long it takes for someone to snap your picture.

Still not about the bike

November 19, 2010

Today it’s lines on the street, the red sculpture, and the crowd. I don’t think the bicycle wants to be in the photo, really. The rider is rushing off to make a food delivery.
