Picnic with balloons

October 7, 2012

That is a fine looking bunch of balloons, and the couple looks like they stepped out the pages of a lifestyle catalog. I wonder what’s in the picnic basket?

The pickpocket

October 5, 2012

I didn’t see what she was up to until I uploaded pictures. Comments: that is a really big umbrella; if you’re up to no good, pretend your hand is not attached to the rest of you, and; here’s another reason not to text in public.

Dudes on Fifth

September 10, 2012

Walking and talking. These guys don’t look like shoppers, exactly. They may just be making the scene and looking at the scenery.

The biker

September 8, 2012

When the light changes, I will move, and fast! Those high heels she is wearing might give a swift kick to the backside of someone who is not paying attention and is in the way.

Preppie in Midtown

September 3, 2012

A fine example of the simple, summer preppie look: polo shirt with a pattern of sunglasses on it (unusual!), red shorts (classic), and flip flops (casual). Naturally, his hair is neatly coiffed. For some, preppie is an everyday look and/or way of life.

Midtown in August

August 8, 2012

In August, the people on the street are a mix of natives getting lunch or coffee and tourists shopping and taking in a sight or two. There’s no measurement of culture consumed to justify expenditures, but maybe there should be: two hours in a museum equals a piece of clothing; three hours on the Circle Line equals a pair of shoes. If rain starts coming down during an outdoor activity…JACKPOT! Spend even more on the shoes!

Pink purse swinger

August 2, 2012

She is off in her own world, just a pink purse with a chain handle and some space to move around and swing her bag.

The friend with a camera

July 25, 2012

We all have that friend with a camera. Even me. He or she likes tourist pictures with a familiar face in them, but they never turn out so well. Even the buildings appear in an unflattering light.

Taking it all in

July 19, 2012

There’s a lot to see on Fifth Avenue, though I don’t remember standing stock-still, outside the subway or waiting for food, anywhere in NYC. The girl is like a birdwatcher, focusing on the small goings-on.

That Yayoi (woman in a window)

July 12, 2012

Renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is in Louis Vuitton’s window at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. She looks real, though her hair purposely doesn’t. (Madame Tussaud’s could learn a few things from this tableau.) Kusama’s currently having a retrospective at the Whitney, and it’s sponsored by a luggage maker with the initials “LV.”
