There’s a narrow park that creates a little breathing room between 42nd and 41st Streets. It’s pleasant, this space from a building entrance to a construction site, but there’s also the feeling that the machinery is about to start up and interrupt the calm.

It’s just a coincidence that women have taken over the intersection at 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. Or is it? Women might go on more daytime errands and shopping trips than men.
Spring break on 42nd Street

42nd Street is extra-crowded lately because of spring break. NYC school kids are off this coming week, but other schools were off two weeks ago, and some have two weeks of vacation rather than one. If, by chance, you live in the five boroughs and want to go to Madame Tussaud’s (it could happen), fuggeddaboudit! The crowds will drive ya crazy.

Scooters for big kids and adults are just like the ones for the little kids. The riders get glances from pedestrians, but fewer than if they were riding a skateboard.

When I’m wandering around the city I like to take pictures of people taking pictures, especially when the subject is mundane. My guess is that this girl snapped a photo of the intersection of Sixth Avenue, with a little bit of Bryant Park at the top.
